I Vigneri di Salvo Foti

On Etna, three main areas can be considered for vine cultivation. The first is between 400 and 900 m a.s.l. on the east side, the second is between 500 and 800 meters a.s.l. on the north side, and the third is between 600 and 1000 m a.s.l. on the south side. In Catania in 1435, the "Maestranza dei Vigneri" was established. This important association of winegrowers, operating on Etna, laid the foundations for a wine-growing professionalism of which the same producer-growers were the protagonists. After 500 years, I Vigneri is a reality operating on Etna and in eastern Sicily.
