Baroni di Pianogrillo

"An ancient Sicilian feud located in the heart of the Iblei Mountains, in Chiaramonte Gulfi, Ragusa. The Pianogrillo company has belonged to my family, the Barons Piccione di Pianogrillo, for centuries. In our district, we have always produced high-quality extra virgin olive oil and, in recent years, also wine, using organic farming methods. The vines and olive trees grow at an average altitude of 480 meters above sea level on a clay-sandy and limestone soil, characterized by a strong presence of white marl. The significant temperature range between day and night, in Chiaramonte Gulfi, turns out to be a real advantage in terms of freshness and finesse, in the expression of all our wines. We cultivate four native grape varieties: Grillo, Grecanico, Nero d'Avola and Frappato. The Tonda Iblea, an extraordinary variety of indigenous olive, is the pride of the company and of the entire Ibleo Terroir. The protection of nature and respect for the environment are the most important values at Pianogrillo. That's why in 2010 the Project related to the safeguarding of the Sicilian Black Pig (a breed considered extinct until some time ago) was born, or rather the breeding of the Ibleo Black Pig, aimed at safeguarding this wonderful native Sicilian breed. Sixty hectares of olive grove, seven hectares of vineyard, fifteen hectares of forest, the people, the care, the history: this is Pianogrillo." Lorenzo Piccione di Pianogrillo
